Landry’s Restaurants is a leading operator of casual dining restaurants with about 180 locations in Texas and about 30 other states. The company also operates Rainforest Cafe, The Crab House, and Saltgrass Steak House. In addition to casual dining, Landry’s owns and operates the iconic Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The company also operates a portfolio of entertainment properties, including aquariums, hotels, and other tourist attractions. Landry’s has been diversifying away from casual dining by investing in entertainment and gaming properties, notably the Golden Nugget. It acquired the downtown Las Vegas icon, along with the Golden Nugget in Laughlin, Nevada, in 2005 from Poster Financial Group for $140 million in cash plus the assumption of debt. After more than $100 million invested in renovations, the gaming business now accounts for about 20% of revenue. The following year Landry’s acquired an 80% stake in T-Rex Cafe, a prehistoric-themed dining concept complete with animatronic dinosaurs in Kansas City. It plans to open a second location at Walt Disney’s Disney World amusement park. The company also owns a controlling interest in Yak & Yeti, an Asian-themed restaurant located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
